UPTP Project Scholarship (2023.12.26)
- The one-year UPTP Project scholarship is offered by NTUST to outstanding UPTP students to complete a Master’s or PhD program at Taiwan Tech.
- Eligibility:
- First-time applicants: UPTP students who hold bachelor's or master’s degrees applying for admission to our graduate programs as full-time students.
- Scholarship recipients applying for an extension: Enrolled students may apply for the renewal of the scholarship for their next year of graduate study at the end of their first academic year.
- Not eligible are students
- who are already receiving other forms of financial aid from NTUST or the R.O.C. (Taiwan) government (Exceptions to these regulations may be granted to students who receive research stipends or work-study payments or financial aid provided under special agreements signed with NTUST.)
- who engage in full-time paid employment in the R.O.C. (Taiwan).
- Application Documents:
- First-time applicants must submit an application form, official undergraduate and graduate transcripts (if they have), letters of recommendation, and a physical examination certificate.
- UPTP Project scholarship recipients applying for an extension of their scholarship must submit the transcript of the previous academic year, a report on or examples of their research achievement, and a recommendation letter from their advisor.
- The recipients of UPTP Project scholarships are obliged to contribute to UPTP as either a teaching assistant or a professor upon completion of their degree program. The duration of service will be the number of years for which the scholarship is awarded.
- UPTP Project scholarships are financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. (Taiwan). They are independent from NTUST Scholarships.
- The scholarship quota each year will be determined based on the budget allocation of the UPTP Project Office.
- Terms of the Scholarship:
- UPTP Project scholarship are granted for one academic year and may be extended one more year once with maximum two years in total for the completion of a master’s program, or twice with maximum three years in total for the completion of a Ph. D. program.
- Value of the scholarship:
- Tuition and fees (including credit hour fees)
- An economy class flight ticket for the most direct flight to Taiwan and back to Paraguay after graduation
- Monthly stipends of NT$ 12,000 to be paid after enrollment
- Medical insurance and commercial accident insurance
- Dormitory fee at Taiwan Tech Dorm
- Subsidy for book materials NT$ 800 per semester (Reimbursement based on receipts)
- Resident certificate application fee
- The scholarship installment may be transferred to the recipient’s bank account at different times.
- When to apply:
- In-coming students should file a scholarship application form at the same time they submit their application for admission in the application system of Office of International Affairs website.
- Scholarship recipients should submit the scholarship application to the UPTP Project office before the expiration of their current scholarship, and no later than the scholarship application deadline announced by the university.
- The scholarship committee of the UPTP Project Office will be responsible for the administration of the scholarships.
- Cancellation, Suspension or Resumption of Scholarship:
Any of the below situations will result in the cancellation or suspension of the UPTP project scholarship leading to the termination of all scholarship payments. All decisions to cancel or suspend scholarships have to be approved by the UPTP project office.
- If a scholarship recipient is not recommended for an extension of the scholarship by the department or graduate program.
- If a scholarship recipient has not performed the duties (including academic performance) required from a graduate student, the scholarship can be canceled at any time during the scholarship period.
- If a scholarship recipient takes a Leave of Absence, the scholarship will be suspended during that time. If a student leaves Taiwan for over a month during the semester without taking a Leave of Absence, the scholarship will be canceled and cannot be resumed.
- If a scholarship recipient gives up his or her pursuit of study without going through the formal process of withdrawal.
- If a new student / a scholarship recipient does not properly complete the enrollment and/or registration process by the announced deadlines.
- If a scholarship recipient violates R.O.C. laws or is expelled from the university.
- If a scholarship recipient has received one minor demerit or more as punishment for violation of university regulations, the UPTP Project office will decide on the cancellation of the scholarship.
- Signing an Agreement:
Scholarship recipients have to sign an agreement that they will accept the following regulations: If any of the information or documentation provided on the application for admission or on the application for financial aid is found to be false or forged, the UPTP Project scholarship will be immediately canceled and all payments will be stopped. Any act of fraud or concealment will lead to punishment under the relevant university regulations, and all received scholarship payments have to be returned to UPTP Project office. Eligibility to apply for resumption of an UPTP Project scholarship or any other financial aid will be lost.
